Annual Wellness

Schedule your yearly well-woman exams because annual wellness is all about you

Annual wellness is the term our San Antonio OBGYNs use to describe your well-woman exams and preventive healthcare appointments. This yearly visit is about so much more than your gynecological exam. Our team addresses many aspects of your health and your life, including everything from general health to your mental health and lifestyle choices that may affect your overall well-being.

We are here to support you from adolescence to menopause and beyond, to answer your questions and address even your most embarrassing problems with confidentiality and compassion.

Well-woman exams address different aspects of your overall health

Your annual check-up is the perfect opportunity for you to get to know your physician and develop a healthy, trusting relationship. Our team takes your vitals, including blood pressure, temperature, height and weight, and talks to you about your family and medical history. You and your physician will talk about several different topics.

  • Chronic health issues, such as diabetes or high blood pressure
  • Emotional health, including questions about depression and anxiety
  • Relationship health, including talking about domestic or dating violence
  • Hormones
  • Alcohol and drug use, including prescription medications

Our San Antonio OBGYNs will perform a pelvic examination to check for problems with your uterus, ovaries, vagina, cervix and fallopian tubes. They may perform a Pap smear and/or HPV test, although these are no longer annual screenings for some women. Our physicians can talk to you about what women need to know about the current Pap smear recommendations.

During this visit, you and your OBGYN will discuss the following issues, if they are relevant to you.

  • Sexual health
  • Sexually transmitted infections or diseases
  • Contraception
  • Preventive health screenings

Preventive health screenings are a vital part of annual wellness

Depending on your age and health, you may need a variety of preventive health screenings to ensure that our team discovers any problems at their earliest, most treatable stages.

  • Mammograms
  • Pap smears
  • HPV testing
  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections
  • Vaccinations
  • Bone density scans

You can talk to our physicians about family planning during your yearly visit

Whether you are planning to start a family or are concerned about preventing pregnancy, well-woman exams are a good time to talk about it. Our team can talk to you about preconception counseling and lifestyle changes you may need to make to ensure a healthy pregnancy. They can also counsel you about the types of contraceptives that are available and which method might work best for you.
